Relational Architecture
At Helen & Hard, relational architecture means designing with the relationships that shape a project between people, materials, environments, resources and use over time. It is a way of working with complexity, rather than reducing it too early.
Each project begins differently. Sometimes with a site, an existing structure, a social ambition, a timber construction or a long-term urban question. Through close dialogue and careful design, we bring the relevant layers together into architecture that is clear, responsible and connected to everyday life.

Timber
Timber is central to our work. It requires precision in how things are made and assembled. As a visible and sensible material, it revealsrelationships and creates spaces that are warm, durable and deeply felt.
Transformation
By working with existing structures, we identify potential for new uses, increased volume and extended lifespan, adapting buildings to meet new needs. What is already there becomes a creative starting point, allowing architecture to evolve, carry history forward and make room for future use and new aesthetics.
Social environments
We design spaces that bring people together and support the everyday life of the future. From shared housing models and neighbourhoods to urban planning, our systemic approach explores how architecture can strengthen social connection across scales and over time.
